The unfortunate hurricanes of 2024 wiped out what was once a sunsoaked oasis within the mangroves. What attracted the clients to this site was its connection to nature and walking out the doors into lush landscaping. Without a full season to enjoy their purchase, the clients chose to rebuild. The new home was elevated in multiple facets to never repeat the flooding that occurred. The site was terraced up to the storm elevation and the living space was additionally elevated a full story above that. The 4,500 square foot home has a connected yet detached guest house for the entertaining and hosting that the owners love to do. The guest house is attached via two separate bridges. In the center of these two connections is a lush lightwell with specimen trees and vegetation to recapture what was lost in the storms. With the added elevation, the views increased towards the Sarasota skyline and the nature preserve keys between. The design oozes clean style with a strong horizontality of concrete floor and roof plates protecting the living area between. A secondary vertical pattern of louvers and structural columns layers the privacy from the street and water while the landscape is allowed to reflect inside with floor to ceiling glass at every possible vantage.
