Modern Rue

Sarasota, FL

A three thousand square foot residence sits in a newly developed cul-de-sac. The pie shaped lot allows the plan to expand as a deeply set home with a large front yard. The exaggerated driveway brings guests to a motor court as wood clad roof lines soar above. Whitewashed cypress wood turns ashen over time for an ever-evolving façade. Storefront glass runs floor to ceiling as it wraps over the entry to create a clerestory effect.

Inside, the shed roof brings volume to an open Great Room. A kitchen, dining room, and living room open onto a covered pool deck to bring bubbling white noise and natural breezes inside. The central great room has a three bedroom wing opposing the master bedroom and garage wing protruding out to the street. Whitewashed cypress is used again as a ceiling treatment with a similar tone wood floor warms all the rooms throughout. A modern grey and chrome theme is represented inside with matte grey and lacquer white cabinetry resting under concrete countertops mingling with adjacent grey accent wall tile and chrome legged furniture. A unique three island kitchen design was implemented as a way to create privacy and increase counter space. An L-shaped island is intersected with a bar top eating area with waterfall countertops extending their shapes vertically and anchoring the space.
