Poinciana House

Sarasota, FL

A coastal home sits along the shores of Blackburn Bay on a long site dotted with exotic Poinciana trees. Just under five thousand square feet this contemporary appointed residence maximizes its water frontage and view. A winding shell drive brings guests past mature Poinciana trees as the entry to the residence juts out to provide cover.Tabby stucco along the base of the home identifies the coastal theme with local seashells. Cypress beams and rafters form an inviting entry as it draws guests inside with the foyer ceiling. Water is immediately noticeable as the foyer opens onto the great room with forty feet of sliding glass doors to view the bay. Sunsets filter in as the days end. Contemporary cabinetry anchors one end of the room as wood and white lacquer cabinetry balances with waterfall edge countertops. The living room grouping is centered on a custom fireplace surround with stacked quartz stone.

A custom metal tube staircase brings one up to the entire second floor master suite including a den and office. The master bedroom features a freestanding, suede covered wall feature to form a headboard looking out sliding glass doors. Two covered porches protrude out to the bay with cypress ceilings sheltering from the sun. One is from the master bedroom for relaxing meditation and the other is off the den as a party deck to watch sunsets. The cypress is continued on all soffits to infuse a richness and warmth found in vernacular island living.
